The objective statement is no longer considered appropriate for your resume. No matter what you say your objective is, potential employers know your ultimate objective is to secure the job. So what should you include in its place? At this point, there are 2 options.

  1. Write an introduction or summary that highlights your most important accomplishments and skills.
  2. Do not include a summary or introduction at all.

The introduction should be placed immediately after the header information and must serve the following purposes:

  • Highlights the most important parts of your resume.
  • Attracts the reader and encourages them to continue reading.

Remember, the introduction isn’t absolutely necessary, so it is better you leave it out completely than have a poor one.
